In our latest Master Class, Roman Perezogin, one of our Junior Technical Designers, takes you step-by-step through the process of using the attachment system in CRYENGINE’s character tool. In just over ten minutes, you’ll be shown a practical workflow that you can follow along with and apply to your own projects. Topic index:

  • 0:00 Introduction
  • 0:57 Adding a new skin attachment
  • 1:57 Explaining Materials in a skin file
  • 2:25 Skin attachment and the settings inside
  • 3:05 What we will not cover in this video and why
  • 4:00 Adding a sword as an attachment
  • 5:10 Adding a sword on the characters back
  • 6:20 Simulation, Pendulum Cone
  • 10:15 The difference between physics in CryAnimation and the physics engine

The tutorial follows Roman’s previous tutorial in which he demonstrates how to create a character and import it into CRYENGINE by using Character Creator 3 and iClone 7. If you wish to follow along with this new video, and you do not already have a character with animations and a generated character definition file in your project, we recommend that you watch that tutorial first. This new video demonstrates how the character pipeline uses an attachment system to customize the appearance of a character model in a variety of ways. This allows you to apply different skins and accessories to characters so you can create unique looks.
