Our new free Audio Showcase sample level on the CRYENGINE Marketplace, with an associated step-by-step tutorial, shows you how to master audio and sound design in our engine.
If you want to take your audio game to the next level, then check out our new Audio Showcase tutorial and new sample level on CRYENGINE Marketplace. Created to demonstrate the power of CRYENGINE’s audio system and show how it works with supported middleware, the tutorial will take you step-by-step through the process of implementing ambient sounds in a pre-designed level using SDL Mixer, FMOD Studio and Wwise. During this four-part tutorial, you will learn how to create audio triggers in the Audio Controls Editor, place them in your game, and tweak properties such as delay and attenuation. You’ll also learn how to use the Create Object tool for defining area-specific audio, add sounds to player animations with the Character Tool, link sounds to particle effects with the Particle Editor, and adjust ambiance based on the time of day with the Environment Editor.
The tutorial includes free assets which you can use to complete the course, and you can use the tutorial with the supported audio middleware of your choice, with specific instructions for SDL Mixer, FMOD Studio, and Wwise described where required.
To accompany this new new tutorial, we have released the Audio Showcase sample level on the CRYENGINE Marketplace. The sample level shows how the tutorial looks and sounds when completed, and allows you to investigate the finished article. Used together, you will have everything you need to get started with creating immersive sound design in your game, and you’ll learn how you can use audio to play its role in gameplay. We hope you find both the sample level and tutorial useful.
If you’re attending the German Dev Days conference in our home city of Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday, May 29, you can also join a sound design session hosted by Audio Director Florian Füsslin and Junior Audio Designer Dominik Zingler. The three-hour workshop uses both the sample level and tutorial documentation and will teach simple proven-in-production techniques to create sound design for immersion and gameplay purposes.
Head over to the CRYENGINE Marketplace to download the Audio Showcase sample level now so see the full level, all set up and access the full tutorial and individual assets on the documentation page here if you want to start your own step-by-step kitbashing experience.
As ever, we look forward to your feedback on the CRYENGINE forum, or via Facebook and Twitter. You can also join the community and our CRYENGINE development team over on the official CRYENGINE Discord server. If you find a bug in the engine, please report it directly on GitHub which helps us to process the issue quickly and efficiently.
