Want to build your NPCs smarter and more quickly? Check out our tutorial playlist, which will help you make your AI sharp.
Our CRYENGINE YouTube channel is a great resource with countless hours of video to help you master different elements of game design, development, and our engine. Today we’re checking out our AI and NPC Guides playlist. CRYENGINE is great for creating an open world game or sandbox game, but without convincing, logical, or smart NPCs, your levels will feel empty. Whether you want to create enemy guards or platforming foes, compelling and effective NPC characters are crucial for gameplay, and our playlist is a great place to begin when you want to build AI in your game.
The curated playlist features a series of 12 videos hosted by CRYENGINE experts which cover a range of topics in the area. The playlist gives you a practical overview of the Tactical Point System, which allows AI to ask intelligent questions about their environment and find relevant areas in the world, including hiding places, attack points, and navigation waypoints. You can learn how to use AI assignments in your level to command NPCs to defend a general area against a player or another group of AI. You’ll also learn how to use paths with AI, including directing an NPC to drive a vehicle, and create tag points for patrols and looping behaviors. Whether you’re just getting started with AI and NPCs or simply want to brush up on your skills, this playlist can help you create convincing AI for gameplay and immersion, and by checking out the series listings, you might discover topics or workflows that you haven’t considered before.
We’re always looking to improve our CRYENGINE learning offering, so if you have a topic or area you’d like to see covered in future, let us know on the forum, or via Facebook and Twitter. You can also join the community and our CRYENGINE development team over on our official CRYENGINE Discord channel. If you find a bug in the engine, please report it directly on GitHub which helps us to process the issue quickly and efficiently.
