Normal map baking with xNormal

xNormal plugin CryTB installation

Xnormal can be used to create normal maps for CryEngine 3. Please refer to http://www.xnormal.net/1.aspx to get more information about the tool and to learn how to use it.

We made our own tangent basis calculation plugin to use xNormal for our production to be able to create seamless normal maps with xNormal for CryENGINE 3.

Installation details

Supported version: xNormal 3.17.4 (64/32bit)

Step 1: Please copy the CryTB.dll into the following directory: xNormal\x64\Plugins (default directory: C:\Program Files\Santiago Orgaz\xNormal\3.17.1\x64\plugins).

Step 2: Start the x64 version of the xNormal.

Step 3: Press the following icon on the xNormal UI.

Step 4: Select the "Tangent basis calculators" tab and select the "CryEngine - TangentBasis" plugin.

Please make sure to use +x -y +z for the normal map settings to bake your textures.

After baking your textures with xNormal you have to load up each texture in Photoshop and use the Crytif plugin to create the final textures for the Engine.
