Rim Lighting simulates light reflection at sharp angles, meaning that it enhances visualization of silhouette shapes, separating surface (making it more visible) from the background.
CRYENGINE supports this feature in the skin shader and it is also texture based, meaning that we are able to mask-out which pixels you want with rim. The Hair shader also supports this feature.
